Google For Kids, Called Kiddle

I just made a discovery and it is something I think is wonderful, considering everything our children can be exposed to on the internet. If you are anything like me, you try to shelter your children from certain aspects of this world, but on the Internet, pretty much anything goes! If there is something your child doesn't know about, surely, they will quickly and easily find out about it on the Wild World Web.

Kiddle is Google for kids.

It displays searches in a kid-friendly manner and excludes any possible non-child websites, so your children can enjoy a safe searching experience. It looks like a kiddie Google page, all colorful and bubbly, but resembles Google tremendously and powered by Google safe search.

I admit, I cannot always be around while my 6 school-aged children are doing their homework on computers. Now, there's a search engine that will eliminate results like Miley Cyrus' unnecessarily exposing photos or the Playboy spreads of the Republican Presidential candidate's (ahem, Trump's) wife.

And, that is just for starters. There are plenty of topics and images and even videos our kids are best kept from.

Your Kids Are Not Perfect, Either

If you think your kids never run across anything inappropriate on Google or that they don't know how to cover their tracks or they would never..., think again. Kids are kids. They are curious. It happens. But, even if your kids are perfect, that doesn't stop erroneous searches that you might not want your children seeing or reading when they search for...well, anything they might happen to search for.

It might be a bit difficult to get our kids to swap to Kiddle when they are used to Google, but all you have to do is change the settings on your default browser to default to the URL for Kiddle and it will pop up immediately when they click on the browser to open it. Kiddle claims to not gather any personal information and logs are cached every 24 hours.

Does It Really Work?

I tried a few search terms that I normally would not have searched. Ever. And Kiddle is now mommy-approved by me as a safe search engine for my kids - as well as your kids! Check it out, give it a test drive.

Let me know what you think!
