Flowers make the perfect gift but many people shy away from the expense of flower delivery. Indeed the costs can add up, but there are ways to enjoy giving flowers without the hassles and cost involved with the typical flower delivery site. The solution is growing your own flowers.
Why not include your kids in the fun of creating a beautiful flower garden? Not only will your children enjoy the incredible joy of watching a plant develop, but they will also love knowing they played a role in the garden itself.
This is the perfect time of year to begin planning a flower garden. Most flowers are easy to start from seeds. You can get a jump on springtime by starting your seeds indoors.
One of the tried and proven methods of sprouting seeds is with the use of a paper towel and a plastic bag. All you have to do is moisten the paper towel and sprinkle on your seeds. Fold the towel over to cover and hold the seeds in place and then place the towel inside the plastic bag. The bag can be kept on a window sill to encourage the sprouting of the seeds.
You will need to check the towel periodically to ensure that it doesn’t dry out. Within a short period of time you will have sprouts that can be transplanted into pots or even to the outdoors.
Another easy way to start seeds is to use an egg carton. All you need to do is fill the pockets of the carton with a quality soil and ‘plant’ your seeds inside. Keep the soil moist and soon your seeds will sprout. You can then decide to either transplant the sprouts to flower pots or to plant them in your garden.
Watching flowers grow can be a very rewarding experience for old and young alike. Small children are fascinated as they watch the natural process of a small seed develop into a plant and eventually produce lovely flowers.
When the flower garden is full the children will take pride in their work. The educational process can include teaching your children the importance of sun and water for your flowers as well as the proper care for various plants.
Your flower garden will enable you to keep your home looking and smelling wonderful as you can cut your own fresh arrangements at will. Plus, you can give flowers to friends and loved ones as gifts. Imagine the pride your kids will have in presenting a bouquet of flowers they grew themselves!
