Baby Bond Review and Giveaway! CLOSED

If you've been following Mommy Rantings for a while, you know a few things about me: 

• I have breastfed all 6 of my children
• Each child breastfed for over a year
• I'm a Medela Mom Maven Ambassador

There are a few things that you might not know, though:

• My husband was/is a major supporter of me through the course of breastfeeding all of the children - he felt strongly about it, because he is completely aware of the benefits for the babies and the mommy. He wouldn't have had it any other way.
• After all of these years, I'm still not comfortable with breastfeeding in public 
• I have never had to deal with ear infections, and for the most part, my children have all been very healthy. They also recover pretty fast when they do get sick.

I know that I chose the best thing for my children by breastfeeding them, however I will admit that it's not easy being a breastfeeding mother, as it consumes more time than bottle feeding. In the case of my children, they became breastfeeding addicts. Ugh! I remember that my daughter, now 10 years old wouldn't let me out of her sight! Dylan, my 3 year old, and my current "leach" (as I fondly refer to it), Dakoda, both had the "Mommy, don't leave my sight!" issue, too.

By the age of two, they all end up weaning themselves...and that "bonding" period ends...believe it or not, breastfeeding mothers, the time goes fast and you end up missing the cuddles and bonding...

I was ecstatic when Slurp and Burp LLC/Baby Bond asked me to review their product, Baby Bond (through Tomoson). What is it, you ask? It's exactly what I've needed all of these years...and it finally comes along when I'm at the last stretch of breastfeeding my 6th child!

Cover It Up!

It bothers me tremendously that women have been shunned for breastfeeding in public! As a matter of fact, the Denny's episode had me ticked off! Are you seriously going to expect a woman to go into a nasty, germ infested restaurant bathroom (sorry, Denny's!) to feed her baby?!? And then an Arkansas mom was told, "Don't you ever do that again in here!" by a bailiff in a courtroom when he realized that she was breastfeeding her baby, under the concealing blanket. Are you kidding me?

There is no doubt that "the breast is the best" for little babies.
It's a shame that mothers aren't praised and complimented about giving their child the best milk nature can supply. Good things often come out of bad, though...

Like Baby Bond!

Baby Bond is essentially a cotton sash - available in different colors and styles - which is worn over the shoulder and wraps around your opposite side (well, I guess the picture describes it better!). Anyways, it covers you up when you are breastfeeding, making breastfeeding in public - or even around close friends and family, or maybe even your older children - much more comfortable and natural.

It has two layers that separate, covering you up when you are breastfeeding your baby, from both the top and the bottom. The one that I chose (Couture) also converts into a waist band, like a belt, and can be used underneath the shirt, as opposed to at the top.

Some Honesty

Now, honesty is my policy, so I will say that I was a bit confused about how exactly to wear it, mostly because it came wrapped up so nicely, and fit into my hand, about the size of a toilet paper roll - and I have yet to figure out how to get it back like that! If you get one, pay attention to how it comes, because once you unfold it, you may never get it back to that compact, easy to pack-and-tote little bundle.

Back to putting it on...I figured it out (okay, call me blond - it really wasn't that hard!)...and Dakoda was more than willing to try it out immediately. Baby Bond definitely covered me up, but it didn't cover Dakoda's head or face - it's a great concept! (He refuses to have his head covered anyways.)

Looking Forward...

Now, we just have to figure out how to get people to really accept breastfeeding in public. But, I think that's going to be an endeavor that starts with one person at a time. I'll never be completely comfortable with breastfeeding in public and I will take every precaution to make sure that I simply don't have to, like sitting in the car. I can tell you that if my son gets hungry - or thirsty - I'm going to feed him. With my Baby Bond Couture, it will be so much more "comfortable", all the way around! (Where were you 11 years ago???)
